The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute is seeking inpatient Advanced Practice Providers in the Center for Hematologic Malignancies (CHM) section of the Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology. The inpatient APP is responsible for daily rounds in conjunction with the faculty physician, writing daily notes and orders, coordinating care with the multidisciplinary team, coordinating the inpatient workflow of admissions and discharges, performing appropriate procedures (e.g., bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, Ommaya taps, and administration of chemotherapy), and performing additional duties as assigned. The inpatient APP team works collaboratively in a clinical and teaching capacity, with opportunities to attend and participate in relevant educational conferences and Division-specific research protocols. Scope and range within the unit population: Adolescent through geriatric. Cellular therapy, bone marrow transplant patients, and patients undergoing treatment of hematologic and oncologic malignancies. The APP functions in a manner that maintains the confidentiality and privacy of each patient, promotes a positive relationship with all health team members, and supports the policies and procedures of the University Hospitals and Clinics.

Required Qualifications:

Physician Assistant Required: Valid State of Oregon Physician Assistant license. Current Physician Assistant license for the State of Oregon. State of Oregon Licensure with collaboration to practice in Oregon. National Board certification. Previous experience practicing independently in a clinical setting.

Preferred: Membership in professional organization. Two years of oncology, hematology, bone marrow transplant, and/or inpatient hospital medicine.

Nurse Practitioner Required: Valid State of Oregon Registered Nurse license. Current Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon. State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or hospital experience in the field of hematology/oncology. Position Details:

Summary: The Oncology PA team is expanding at WMCHealth! Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) is seeking physician assistants to provide coverage for our Oncology Hospitalist Advanced Practice team at our flagship hospital in Valhalla. We are recruiting experienced oncology PAs who will primarily support the inpatient medical management of our patients with adult hematologic malignancies.

The primary focus of this team will be to manage both our bone marrow transplant population and inpatients with hematologic malignancies. A secondary responsibility would be to the Solid Tumor Oncology inpatient service.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing H&Ps and providing both autonomous and team-based patient care for the medical management of adult hematologic oncological inpatients.
  • Perform bone marrow aspirations, lumbar punctures, central line removals, insertion of feeding tubes, and assist with intrathecal chemotherapy administration, all in accordance with appropriate training.
  • Perform comprehensive physical and neurological exams on both acute and chronically ill patients.
  • Diagnosing, treating, ordering, and interpreting laboratory/radiologic tests.
  • Works well within a multidisciplinary team of attending physicians, residents, APPs, and nursing staff to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
  • Will function as a clinical liaison between oncologists, patients/families, and consulting departments.
  • Assists with discharge planning and follow-up care plans.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be board-certified as a physician assistant.
  • Current and active NYS PA License, ACLS, and DEA required.
  • Ideal candidates will have a minimum of two years of experience as a practicing clinical PA with a focus on oncologic hospitalist management or within a given subspecialty of oncology and/or complexity of medical care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and coordinates the department operations, resolves system issues, advises on work methods, functions as a clinical and operational resource and assists with escalated issues.

  • Depending on the credentials of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • NP: National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders: Outpatient / Infusion APP
This APP position will have Outpatient Infusion Unit responsibilities for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders

The APP will work with the comprehensive, multidisciplinary team helping children of childhood cancer, hematologic disorders, immunodeficiency and immunologic diseases who receive infusions in our center. The provider is expected to understand their general medical needs, the role and side effects of infusion medications and work closely with ordering providers to ensure safe administration of medication. You will be responsible for management of acute illness, infusion reactions and toxicity, including facilitating transfer to higher level of care for unstable patients. Additionally, you will be trained in outpatient procedures like bone marrow aspirates/biopsies and lumbar puncture, a part of the general care of many of our patients.

You will be responsible for entering patient care orders, outpatient prescriptions, patient and family education and coordinating care with primary Additionally, you will be a resource for development of standard operating procedures and quality improvement projects.

Time Expectation:
Coverage is weekdays, salaried, M-F. We will consider 4-10hr day/week with rotating day off.

Job Qualifications:

  • PNP, FNP, or PA-C with at least 2 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider
  • Board Certified and Credentialed at PCH 
  • Additional Experience in any of the following areas is preferred:
    • Pediatric Acute Care in Emergency Medicine, PICU or Trauma
    • Hematology / Oncology / BMT
